Bachelor’s Degree

Slovak universities offer a 3-year bachelor’s program, after which the student takes a state exam, usually in several professional subjects, and at the same time defends his bachelor’s thesis.

Students will receive a diploma with a bachelor’s degree after completing this phase.

This diploma allows you to start professional activity, but to achieve career growth, you need to obtain a higher degree – master’s degree, or for technical fields – engineer.

Master’s degree

After earning a bachelor’s degree , a student who chooses to pursue a degree in college can apply for a master’s degree.

At this stage, it is possible to change not only the university and faculty, but also the field. In this case, the student must pass several exams in professional subjects of his chosen direction.

International students can also take the exams for admission to master’s studies, but not everyone manages to achieve the required number of points. The biggest obstacle in this process is the lack of language preparation, and an equally important factor is the lack of training within the chosen field at the bachelor’s level.

Students who manage to complete their master’s degree are awarded the title of Master or Engineer and are also issued with a diploma.

Doctoral studies

The last level of higher education in Slovakia is doctoral studies.

The study at this stage lasts 2-3 years and ends with a state exam, followed by the defense of the dissertation. Students who successfully complete the defense of their dissertation are awarded the title of doctor (PhD.), which is the highest academic degree in Slovakia.

This degree and its equivalents are a prerequisite for employment in any research position in most academic positions not only in Slovakia, but also in the world.
